Parents
Where else can you take your children for
a couple of hours of supervised activities for £2?
What better place to send your children to learn valuable life skills, independence and have a bit of fun in a safe environment with other children than Beavers, Cubs or Scouts?
Cubs & Scouts isn’t just about camp fires, playing games and running around in the winter in a pair of shorts (we don’t do that any more). It teaches children how to look after themselves, how to think for themselves and how to respect themselves and other people.
Scouts meet every Monday at 7:00pm and Beavers and Cubs meet every Thursday at 5:30pm and 6:45pm respectively. Scouts finishes at 9:00pm, Beavers finishes at 6:30pm and Cubs finishes at 8:30pm. During their sessions, your child can expect to play games, learn practical skills and work towards earning a wide variety of badges to recognise the effort they put in. They will also be encouraged to put their spare time outside of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to good use as things they do outside of Beavers, Cubs & Scouts – such as swimming, horse riding and homework – can also count towards their badges.
Both Cubs and Scouts have regular weekend activities such as camps, walks up the Wrekin, fund-raising, charity and community work, etc. Things like camps cost money because they’re expensive to run but most activities are free (unless your child harasses you for sponsor money, of course!).
There is more information on what Beavers, Cubs and Scouts do in Brookside on their respective pages on this website. If you think this is something your child might be interested in, encourage them to have a look at the website and see what they think. If they want to find out more, get in touch with us and we’ll try to answer any questions you or they might have. The first session is free so if they try it and decide it’s not for them, it hasn’t cost you anything.
If your child would like to come to Beavers, Cubs or Scouts, please make sure you get in touch with us first so we can make sure there are enough trained staff to safely look after all the children. There are very strict rules on the ratio of children to leaders to ensure their safety.
If you are a parent/carer or adult interested in volunteering to help at 1st Brookside scout group or becoming a leader, please contact us for more information or drop by on a Monday or Thursday to meet us.
Remember: Beavers, Cubs and Scouts are for boys and girls!
